The Histochemical Demonstration of Keratin by Methods involving Selective Oxidation

چکیده

1. Oxidation of tissues with performic acid gives rise to histochemically detectable reaction products particularly in two classes of material. These are keratin and lipoids of the phosphatide class. 2. Three methods have been evolved for visualizing the effect of performic acid on cystine-containing structures; two of these (performic acid/Schiff and perfoi-mic acid/cobalt nitrate) also record the effect on lipoids. 3. An attempt has been made to elucidate the chemistry of the reactions and it is suggested that oxidation of cystine in the tissues gives rise not only to cysteic acid <alanine-beta-sulphonic) but to another acid (alanine-beta-sulphinic). The latter is responsible for the positive reaction with Schiff's solution. 4. The Schiff reaction with performic acid oxidized lipoids is due to the formation of substances giving the reactions of aldehydes. It is possible that similar groups may be produced from lipoid molecules by periodic acid oxidation and that these and not polysaccharides (1*2 glycols) are responsible for the periodic acid-Schiff reaction in such cases.

Selective Oxidation of Lauryl Alcohol to Lauraldehyde under Liquid-Liquid Phase Transfer Catalysis (LL-PTC) with Potassium Chromate as the Oxidizing Agent

In the present research, the selective oxidation of lauryl alcohol to lauraldehyde was studied under liquid-liquid phase transfer conditions using potassium chromate (K2CrO4) as an oxidizing agent and tetrabutyl ammonium bromide (TBAB) as the phase transfer catalyst. Chromium (VI) reagents are used in these oxidations since the alcohols are selectively oxidized <e...

Selective oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides by a vanadium-based catalyst using 30% hydrogen peroxide

The vanadium-based catalyst, acts as a homogeneous catalyst for the selective oxidation of various kinds of sulfides with 30% aqueous H2O2. Vanadium-based catalyst was successfully used as the oxygen source for the oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides for the first time. The sulfoxides were obtained in a good way to high yields without any detectable over-oxidation to sulfones under normal condi...

p-Toluenesulfonic acid a useful and selective reagent for the oxidation of benzoins to benziles under solvent-free condition

Oxidation of some benzoins to benziles is reported by using p-toluenesulfonic acid as aselective oxidation catalyst under solvent-free condition in high yield. The adjacent carbonylgroup is necessary for the oxidation of hydroxyl group in these compounds. The reaction iscarried out in a sand-bath at 100 °C with minimum by-products.
